Mini-golf chucks into town

Course anticipated to open for May long weekend

Janice Kirkman is waiting for a special delivery from Chilliwack.

Having received a putt forward by District of Squamish council on March 19, the owner of Eagle Vista RV Resort and Campground is constructing Squamish's first mini-golf course.

This week, some of the Whistle Punk Hollow course's main features, including an eight-foot long, four-foot high train, were expected to arrive in town. Kirkman followed the items' progress online. They were sculpted by Dan Sawatzky of the Imagination Corp.

The 18-hole course follows a logging theme, in keeping with Kirkman's family history her father and grandfather both worked in the forest industry. Players will have to tackle obstacles such as a logging truck and steam donkey.

The mini-golf idea came to the family when members were battering around ideas of what to do with a vacant parcel of land, she said.

We hope to have it open for the May long weekend, Kirkman said.

The course, located in the northern portion of the Eagle Vista campground on Centennial Way, is situated in a prime spot next the Brennan Park Recreation Centre, Coun. Ted Prior said at the March 19 regular business meeting.

I think it will be a nice, little business there, he said.

The project was a hole-in-one with officials, having received unanimous support from council. The imagination used in developing the miniature link's feature is impressive, Coun. Doug Race.

The mini-golf grounds will take up approximately 1,500 metres squared. Kirkman aims to keep the course open from spring to fall. To learn more about the course, follow @WhistlePunkGolf on Twitter or visit Whistle Punk Hollow on Facebook.
