Nest, Two Birds tie one on

Restaurants victorious in Waldorf School's Soup-Off contest

Cedar Valley Waldorf School celebrated its annual May Fair and Soup-Off on Saturday (May 12) and it all went to the birds.

Amid the energetic beats provided by Kostaman and Carolyn Grass and Friends, a plethora of kids' crafting activities, plant and craft sales, cake walks and dancing around the festive May pole, the community declared a new victor for Squamish's Best Soup.

Title-holder Steve Fecho of The Cup Bistro and Deli was heartily challenged by Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club and Zephyr Café, but in the end it was The Nest and Two Birds Eatery who flew off as the new champions in a tie.

The CVWS Soup-Off gives the community the chance to judge Squamish's best soup, explained co-ordinator Suzanne Baker.

"For only $5 one could sample five soups created by five local restaurants, from which guests chose their favourite and enjoy a bowlful," she said, adding that it was a close race.

"Chef Jeff Paulson of The Nest created a fabulous butter chicken soup and was first to hit the bottom of his crock while Carol Bird of Two Birds Eatery pleased palates with a scrumptious chicken and orzo creation."

Jaime Grant of Squamish Valley Golf and Country Club prepared a delectable salmon chowder; there was a scrumptious vegan, gluten-free black bean soup from Zephyr; and a divine chicken curry soup prepared by The Cup.

"It was really difficult to tell who was going to win," Baker said. " They were all so delicious."
