Obituary: Eileen Marie Kyle

Eileen Marie Kyle, recently of Kamloops, B.C., and former long-time resident of 100 Mile House, B.C., passed away peacefully on Feb. 8, 2023.

Born to Evelyn and Murray Ganong on May 4, 1930, Eileen was raised in South Vancouver and enjoyed helping out at her dad’s garage and being part of many family trips to extended family across the country.

She completed her nursing degree at St. Paul’s Hospital and worked as a Public Health Nurse in Squamish, delivering health care to remote populations in the area by train. Here she met and married her first husband, Les Walton, in 1955.

Les died tragically young, leaving Eileen with their two little boys.  In 1969, Eileen and Harold Kyle moved their amalgamated family to the 100 Mile House area to begin farming at Buffalo Creek, where Eileen’s love of gardening was evidenced in splendid vegetable gardens and impressive flower displays.

They relocated to the homestead on Upper Houseman Rd. in 1981, where they spent many joyful years together. Eileen taught herself to type and returned to work in a clerical capacity at the Government Probation Office for 14 years until her retirement.

After Harold’s death in 2010, Eileen moved into town until 2022, when she moved to Kamloops to be closer to family.

Eileen will be remembered by many as a valued friend: someone who suffered many losses and hardships but survived with strength of character, intellect, faith, grace and generosity.

Her love of books and reading, and CBC radio were legendary.

Eileen was predeceased by her first husband, Les Walton (1964); her sons, George Walton (1982) and David Walton (2005); her husband of 45 years, Harold Kyle (2010); and her sister, Shirley Fyles (2014).

She is survived by her son Brian (Melanie) Kyle, daughters Sharin (Ben) Bergman and Judy (Ron) Mallett, grandchildren Andrea (Uche) and Brent (Lisa), and great-grandchildren Reid, Max, Cora, Tianna and Winter.

Her family will miss her sage counsel, her emotional range, her consistent encouragement and her boundless love.

There will be no service by request.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Dr. Scott Montgomery, the nurses, and the staff of Royal Inland Hospital for their respectful care of Mom in her final days.
