With great sadness, we advise the passing of our matriarch Leilani Anne Band.

Leilani started her journey on April 27, 2023, at the North Shore Hospice, surrounded by her family.

Leilani was born to her late parents, Casimir Guss Band and Olive Lumley, on October 1, 1940, at Lions Gate Hospital.

She grew up in North Vancouver.

Leilani attended Sutherland Junior High School and the Kamloops Indian Residential School.

While she was growing up, she did school gymnastics, track and field and softball.

Leilani was married to her late husband, Mike Hansen, for 18 years.

Leilani moved to the U.S., where she worked for Bell Telephone Company as an executive assistant.  

While working for Bell, she started a First Nations division and awareness program for the betterment of the company and her people.

Leilani will be remembered for her witty comments and extensive vocabulary; she was intelligent and enjoyed reading.

In her spare time, she would like to go for walks and road trips.  

She loved watching the Seahawks and always knew what the latest movies were on demand.

She is survived by her loving daughter Leilani, grandchildren Chenoa, Richard; great-grandchildren Leilani, Martin many loving relatives and dear friends.

A private family service was held on May 9, 2023.
