It is with sadness we announce the passing of Miklos Nagy-Deak on March 7, 2024.

He was born on May 26, 1933, in Kolozsvar, Hungary. Miklos married Anna on October 29, 1955, in Sarvar, Hungary.

Miklos, Anna and his sister Helen fled Hungary, escaping over the Austrian border in December 1956. After two months in Austria, they travelled to Holland and then on to Canada, arriving in Halifax on May 29, 1957.

From there they travelled to Abbotsford, finding work on a farm in Matsqui.

From there, they moved to Brailorne, where Miklos worked in the mine. They later moved to Squamish to work at Anaconda Mine in Britannia and finally at Northair Mine.

In the early 1970s, Miklos built the family home on two acres at the end of Finch Drive, where they raised farm animals, and tended a large garden, and he enjoyed making wine.

In the late 1980s, Miklos left Squamish, moving first to Surrey, Agassiz, Keremeos and then Penticton before returning to Squamish in 2011 to live with his son George and daughter-in-law Shelley.

Miklos enjoyed fishing, visits to the casino, and gatherings with his group of close friends.

Miklos was predeceased by his wife Anna in 1987, his son Michael (Mick) in 2019, grandson Andrew in 2014.

He is survived by his son, George (Shelley); five grandchildren: Michael, Travis (Melissa), Stacy (Gary), Caitlin, and David; and two great-grandchildren: Kaida and Owen.

A special thank you to Dr Cranston for his years of care, and to the staff at Inglewood Care Centre in West Vancouver for caring for Miklos in his last months.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Squamish Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
