Stuffed animals, a toy RCMP officer and a Halloween mask — you can sure find some weird stuff lying around town.
It was just another reminder that littering is an ongoing issue here in Squamish, and it arrives as the final tally for Pitch-In Week was announced.
The Squamish Environment Society, the Squamish Trail Society and others collected close to 3,000 kilograms of trash this year after all the compostables, refundables and recyclables were removed, according to Carl Halvorson of the Squamish Environment Society.
“Lots of interesting things were found amongst the disturbing trend for some folks to simply dump their discards wherever they please,” wrote Halvorson in an email to The Chief.
“No mannequin legs - though I did find a styrofoam head last fall — and unhappily a butchered bear carcass (head, feet, and skin) on the side of the road.”
Pitch-In Week is an annual event where everyone in town is encouraged to clean up litter in the area.
This year it was in late April.
