Prayer service focuses on justice

Do remember that the World Day of Prayer service will be hosted by St. John's Anglican Church at 1930 Diamond Road today (Friday, March 2) at 2 p.m. This inter-denominational service is open to everyone and the women of Malaysia wrote the service with the theme being "Let Justice Prevail."

The Acoustic Jam at the Brackendale Art Gallery is coming up this Sunday (March 4) from 7:30 to 10 p.m. when Rita Kyle and her group of musicians are ready to entertain you. Everyone is welcome and there is no charge.

The next gathering for the Squamish Valley Quilters will be on Wednesday (March 7) at the Sandman Hotel with a social sew day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Take along a lunch and then join others later for dinner before the meeting at 7 p.m., or just for the meeting. The Grade 6 and 7 students at Valleycliffe Elementary School are planning a year-end field trip to the Kettle Valley Railway. A fundraising Beer and Burger night will be held at the Cliffside Neighbourhood Pub on Saturday, March 10, at 6:30 p.m. The Cliffside will be featuring the Vancouver Canucks vs. the Montreal Canadiens on the big screen at 7 p.m. Tickets can be picked up at the main office at the school with Anne MacDougall or other arrangements can be made by emailing Terry Murray at [email protected].

After the annual Burns Supper and Dance at the Squamish Valley Golf Club on Jan. 28, Mount Garibaldi Masonic Lodge #127 dispersed money to: the Squamish Hospital Foundation, Hilltop House, Helping Hands, Burns Lake Masonic Lodge for fire victims, to a fund for two-year-old Theo Lazaridis (diagnosed with leukemia) and his family and to the Andrew Pereman Trust Fund for his children.

The Squamish Food Bank will open its doors on Wednesday (March 7) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for grocery distribution at the Alano Club on Third Avenue.

If you're interested in joining or knowing more about the Investment Club at the Seniors Centre, be there on Thursday (March 8) at 9:45 a.m. A sewing circle is now meeting each Friday at 12:30 p.m.

Members of the Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital went shopping in February and new jewelry, scarves, toys for kids, and bunnies for Easter are now on display at the gift shop along with baby items, blankets and baby bears. When looking for a gift please visit the shop open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues will be on stage at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Friday (March 9) at 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the children in Haiti and the Howe Sound Women's Centre. Tickets are $20 each and available at the Centre, Xocolatl and the gallery at $20 each.

There is bingo at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #277 on Monday (March 5) with doors open at 5:30 p.m.
