Quest University mathematics Prof. Richard Hoshino next week will discuss powerful strategies for mathematical problem solving at the second event in a series of talks hosted by Quest U. professors at Sea to Sky Corridor libraries.
The Scholar Series: Quest Faculty at the Libraries is a free fall lecture series in which Quest instructors will delve into a range of topics at public libraries in Squamish and Whistler. Last night (Wednesday, Sept. 11), political science professor Dr. Doug Munroe spoke about the implications of 9/11, 12 years later.
Hoshino is to speak on the topic "Three Problem-Solving Strategies for Mathematics and for Life" next Thursday (Sept. 19) at 6:30 p.m. at the Squamish Public Library. who joined the Quest faculty in February, was a post-doctoral fellow at the National Institute for Informatics in Tokyo and a mathematician for the Government of Canada.
His talk will cover "innovative applications of these strategies to several real-world situations, such as such as: securing the Canadian border; reducing travel emissions for a billion-dollar professional sports league; and developing a roommate matching algorithm for students," organizers wrote in a statement.
