School to host May Fair

Springtime fun, food and more planned on Saturday

The students and staff of Squamish's Waldorf School are inviting the community to a celebration of spring.

This Saturday (May 11) marks Cedar Valley Waldorf School's 11th annual May Fair and Open House, an event that features a contest to determine Squamish's best soup and for the second straight year, live music provided by Kostaman, Carolyn Grass, and friends.

"After so many years of putting together this community celebration we have really found a way to present it all so that everyone in the family is going to have a great time - kids, parents, grandparents," said Kirsten Andrews, one of the event co-ordinators.

"A lot of families make a point of inviting friends to Squamish on this weekend just so they can bring them to May Fair."

In addition to the Soup Off, in which fair-goers can sample up to five soups by local chefs and choose a bowl of their favourite and cast a ballot, the culinary delights include a German barbecue with bratwurst and all the trimmings, gelato from Gelato Carina, tons of homemade baking and a cake walk.

There will be a craft table loaded with Waldorf toys and books, and handmade crafts by children, parents and faculty, with many of the teams perfect as Mother's Day gifts. A puppet show, featuring handcrafted puppets and sets, will be presented throughout the day by the early childhood faculty.

The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school, 38265 Westway Ave. in Valleycliffe.
