The Squamish Community Learning program is looking for volunteer tutors.

The local program is looking for English and Digital Literacy tutors who are 19 years of age or older and can commit about two to four hours of volunteering per week.

“The Squamish Community Learning program is a community-based, volunteer tutor program that provides one-to-one and/or small group English language and other literacy instruction to adults living or working in the Squamish community,” reads the news release.

“The learners in our program may be English as a second language (ESL) newcomer learners or Canadian-born, long-term residents requiring support in one or more areas like digital literacy and life skills.”

This is the 11th year the program has been in operation in the Sea to Sky Corridor and is co-ordinated by Capilano University in partnership with the Squamish Welcome Centre.

In order to volunteer, the tutors will have to complete a police information check, but no previous teaching experience is required, and free training will be provided.

“If you are passionate about literacy, learning and doing some meaningful work in the community, we would love to hear from you,” reads the release.

If interested in learning more or signing up to volunteer, please contact Hasrat Grewal Gill at HasratGrewalGill@CapilanoU.ca or call 604-567-2222.
