If you see an RCMP officer out and about today (Feb. 11), you may notice a little something added to the traditional red serge.

Local officers are wearing moose hide pins in support of the Moose Hide Campaign's goal of ending gender-based violence while signalling a commitment to honour, respect and protect women and children.

Squamish RCMP joined partner agencies such as the Howe Sound Women's Centre, Pride Squamish, School District 48, Squamish District Bylaws and Public Works, Squamish Fire, Squamish Nation, Under One Roof and Vancouver Coastal Health.

The campaign, which stresses the importance of violence prevention, started in northern B.C. in 2011 as a local initiative focused on Indigenous people in the region before gaining a provincial and then national foothold.
