After more than a year of being closed due to the pandemic, Squamish's Match Eatery and Public House is open again.

"Not having a clear picture of when things would return to normal due to COVID, we targeted patio season as our opportunity to reopen," Tanya Gabara, a spokesperson for Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited, which runs Match, told The Chief in an email.

The patio at Match has extra space for physical distancing, she added.

The restaurant is open seven days a week for take-out and patio service.

Casinos in B.C. shut down due to the pandemic effective March 16, 2020. There is no word on when they will be reopening.

The restaurant reopened on April 6, after shutting down almost 13 months ago, on March 17, 2020.

At that time, the 32 Match employees were laid off.

Of those, 19 staff are now back working.

"Understandably, with such a long closure, there have been some employees that have moved on to other opportunities during that time."

Since last June, the company has been working on a phased reopening of all its food and beverage outlets.

With the reopening of Match Squamish, there are now 11 Gateway Casinos’ restaurants open in B.C. – including eight Match locations, two Atlas Steak + Fish locations, and The Point restaurant in Williams Lake.
