The Squamish Environmental Society has its monthly bird count on Sunday (March 13) at 8 a.m. (Daylight Savings Time) with everyone meeting at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Co. The Squamish Public Library and Quest University Canada Lecture Series continues on Thursday (March 17) from 7 to 8 p.m. Dr. Neil Melvin will talk on The Brain: Facts and Fallacies. This lecture will address several common misconceptions, demonstrating that truth is often stranger and more fascinating than fiction.

The monthly birthday celebration at Hilltop House will be held on Wednesday (March 16) at 2 p.m. when Dina Valleau, Hazel Balison, Leona Ingraham and Azizah Tahery will be honoured.

Registrations are now being taken for anyone wishing to attend the Courage to Grieve Bereavement Support Group for those experiencing loss through death. The grand finale draw for the 2010-'11 series of the Rotary 200 Club Lottery was held at the Rotary luncheon on March 3 at the Howe Sound Inn. The winners were: Steve and Cherryl Provencal ($2,000), Al McIntosh and Basil Milne ($1,000 each) and Doreen Ranson ($200). Thanks to all the purchasers of the $100 tickets as you have assisted Squamish Rotary in obtaining their community service goal for the 2010-'11 term.

The Squamish Food Bank will distribute grocery hampers on Wednesday (March 16) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue.

The Squamish Seniors Centre Society held a general meeting at the Centre on March 2. General Glenn Rudkin said there are now 332 members registered. In the near future it is hoped a Meals on Wheels program (twice a week delivery) will be offered. This would be implemented through the Vancouver Coastal Health, the Squamish Mental Health and prepared by Gregg at the Clock Tower Café. A co-ordinator and volunteer drivers will also be required.

The Howe Sound Performing Arts Association welcomes concert pianist Avan Yu to a performance at St. John's Anglican Church tonight (March 11) with a reception at 7 p.m. and the concert at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 and will be available at the door.

There is now a bus stop at the Seniors Centre and a schedule of the bus runs is posted at the Centre with a red "S" to indicate the bus times.
