'Tell the Stories' presentation set

St. John's officials to focus on church's history as 'place of connection'

A presentation about the history of St. John the Divine Anglican Church, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, is planned next week at the Brackendale Art Gallery.

The presentation, titled Tell the Stories: 100 Years of St. John the Divine, is the fourth talk in the Squamish Historical Society's (SHS) 2013 Speaker Series. It begins next Thursday (April 11) at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation.

The church was founded by Rev. Allan Greene with the help of William Mashiter in July 1913. Next week's event, will feature presentations by current Priest in Charge William Roberts and members of the St. John's Centennial Committee, will focus on the church as a place of connection, contribution and celebration in greater Squamish, SHS officials wrote in a statement.

In addition to organizing church centennial celebrations, the committee is working with the SHS and others in preparation for Squamish's 50th year of incorporation in 2014, organizers said.
