Textile artist to speak in Squamish

Churnisoff presentation planned on March 5

The public is invited to a presentation by textile artist Kirsten Chursinoff on March 5 in an event organized by the Squamish Quilters' Guild.

Churnisoff, a Vancouver-based writer and instructor, will present a slide show detailing her techniques of working with fibres and colours at 7 p.m. at the Sandman Hotel. Non-guild members are welcome to attend for a $5 admission charge, collected at the door.

She is passionate about fabric, threads, yarns, embroidery and quilting, holds a diploma of Textile Art from Capilano University, received the Visual Arts Development Award in 2006 and has written for publications such as Quilting Arts Magazine. Churnisoff's fibre art techniques span the "Art Quilt" realm and include handstitching, raw-edge applique and free-motion machine embroidery.

The Squamish Quilters' Guild meets monthly on the first Wednesday of each month.
