The West Coast Heritage Railway Park (WCHRP) will look more like Jurassic Park this spring break.
The stars of the animated series Dinosaur Train will be taking over the park while the kids are away from school. Ken Tanner of the WCHRP said it should be a wild couple of weeks.
"It's going to be an adventure - just like the TV show," he said, noting it's the first time an event like this has ever come to Canada. "This show is loved by kids everywhere and we're going to have half a dozen of these full-size characters invading the park."
Tanner said the train will depart weekdays at 10 a.m. and Saturdays and Sundays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Kids will get a chance to ride a train and then go explore - just like the dinosaurs do on the show.
"Kids get to go on a train ride and then we get off the train and go digging for fossils and searching for dinosaur bones," he said. "There's also going to be tattoos for kids, crafts, and a bouncy castle. It should be a great afternoon."
Tickets cost $25 and are available online at www.wcra.org. It's recommended that train riders arrive at the park 30 minutes before the train departs.
The kids will get full run of the park during spring break but adults will get a chance for a fun night on the rails with the Great Train Robbery event on April 6.
The latter event is a theatre presentation put on by local actors and those on the train will help solve the mystery. Tickets cost $75 and include a dinner, drinks and dessert.
"Our intent is to have more night like this," Tanner said. "I think people are starting to see the park as somewhere to go and have fun and we're really enjoying reaching out to the community with events like this."
