Thomas chugging back into Squamish

World-famous tank engine coming to West Coast Railway Heritage Park in June

For the seventh consecutive year, the beloved railroad icon Thomas the Tank Engine is coming to Squamish and the legendary locomotive hopes to thrill both children and adults with his antics.

The Day Out with Thomas event, which takes place at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park on June 4, 5, 11 and 12, will give those in attendance the opportunity to not only ride Thomas but also participate in several other activities related to the popular kids' train.

Fans will be able to take a 25-minute ride with a 15-ton replica of Thomas the Tank Engine, created by author Rev. W. Awdry and his son Christopher. Kids also have a chance to meet railway controller Sir Topham Hatt, as well as enjoy crafts, storytelling and live music throughout the day. Other activities include mailing a letter to Thomas or his friends, Thomas tattoos, a bouncy castle and the chance to get a photo with Thomas. This year will also give children the chance to build whatever they wish with Mega Bloks.

With the help of an army of volunteers, West Coast Railway Heritage Park is transformed into a world of make believe. For some kids it will be the first time they've ever ridden a train. Last year's event was deemed a big success by officials at the park, with a total of 10,152 guests taking part in the four-day event. Last year also marked the first year that the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre could be integrated into the event.

It's recommended that those attending arrive at least an hour ahead of their scheduled train departure time to allow time to park and walk onto the site. Train boarding commences 20 minutes before the departure time and trains depart the station right on time. If you miss your train, the park cannot guarantee a later ride as they are generally sold out. Officials also pointed out that the event will go on rain or shine.
