Tons of Halloween activities for the whole family

The Brennan Park Recreation Centre will be hosting a Halloween costume skate on Sunday (Oct. 31) from noon to 2:20 p.m. It promises to be a fun time with games, creepy crafts and more. A Halloween "bash" swim is planned on Oct. 31 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The annual Halloween "Fright Fest Nights" at the West Coast Railway Heritage Park begins next Wednesday (Oct. 27) to Saturday (Oct. 30) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night. Plan on climbing aboard the "Ghoul Express" with all its haunting music and ghoulish surprises. Visit the Brightbill House for trick and treating, and show off your talent at the Halloween arts and crafts room. If you are a Heritage Park member, the admission including the ride is $3 and for non-members $5 each.

Get spooked at the Squamish Public Library on Friday (Oct. 29) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Library is hosting a fun, free Halloween event for children ages six to 12 years. Come to the library to hear stories, play some games, and enjoy a yummy snack. Please register for this event by dropping by the library or calling 604-892-3110 during library hours. A Halloween soup and sandwich day will be held at the Seniors Centre on Thursday (Oct. 28) starting at noon. Please purchase your tickets in advance at $9 each (includes the HST).

The Seniors Health and Wellness Fair will be held on Wednesday (Oct. 27) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Squamish Seniors Centre at 1201 Village Green Way in downtown Squamish. The annual flu shot will be available for those 65 years and up, please have your Care Card with you. For your convenience, wear clothing with short sleeves. Check out the many displays and health tips at tables located throughout the Centre. There is limited parking and you are advised to take the bus or carpool. During the Wellness Fair the Clock Tower Café is featuring soup and sandwich for $6.

On Thursday (Oct. 28), the next Community Food Security Forum will take place at the Squamish Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon. This discussion is for anyone in the Sea to Sky Corridor interested in Food Security issues. Presentations will be given by Emily Smallwood, food security advocate, and the Squamish Climate Action Network Food Security Committee on their Squamish Food Charter work and their new food security web site. The annual Scotia Bank fundraiser for the Squamish Hospice Society is ongoing at the bank until Oct. 29. Please drop by the bank and check out the many items available on the silent auction tables and put your bid on anything displayed that appeals to you. There are over 50 items on display that were donated by businesses in our community as well as from Vancouver, Britannia Beach and Whistler. Cash donations are also accepted. The WOW riders are still cycling and they will meet at Canadian Tire on Monday (Oct. 25) at 10 a.m. for a trail ride. Anyone wishing more information is asked to call Shirley at 604-898-5715.

Tomorrow (Oct. 23), the Squamish Food Bank will hold a bottle drive in the community from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. If not home, please leave bottles and cans marked for the Food Bank in your driveway or call Sue at 604-848-4316.

The Over the Hill Hikers are asked to meet at the corner of Ross and Government Road at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 26) for a Brew Creek hike. For more information, please call Heather at 604-892-9003.

Storytimes at the Squamish Public Library will be cancelled for Monday (Oct. 25) as the library is closed that day for computer upgrades. The rest of the week's programs will run as usual. This session of storytimes will end on Friday (Oct. 29) and the new session will begin on Sunday, Nov. 8. There was a good turnout for the annual Harvest Tea held at Hilltop House on Oct. 16. The raffle winners were: Jamie Coleman for the doll and wardrobe, Lynette Halvorson for the patchwork quilt, Darlene Elchuk for $100 cash, Victoria Freeman of Kamloops for the $100 gift basket, and Connie Hudson for the $75 gift basket. The Hilltop House Support Society thanks everyone for their support.

The BIA is hosting an evening for the Social Media and the Squamish Small Business on Wednesday (Oct. 27) from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Squamish Public Library. It is free for BIA members and $20 for non-members. Join host Christine McLeod from Impact People Practices (www.impactpeoplepractices.com/blog) as she shares best practices and success stories of social media and small businesses who are seeing great results from various social media channels.

The Woman's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital will be selling raffle tickets for their November bazaar tomorrow and Sunday (Oct. 23 and 24) at Wal Mart from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The annual general meeting for the Squamish Hospice Society will be held in the Hilltop House board room (second floor of new addition) on Monday (Oct. 25) at 7 p.m. Members of Hospice and the public are welcome to attend.
