Travel Fair coming to Squamish

First-time event aims to showcase local tourism options

The Sea to Sky Corridor will be on full display at the first-ever Sea to Sky Travel Fair, which takes places at the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre on April 2.

All things travel will get an opportunity to shine at the event, which was the brainchild of Sunsational Vacations' Christine Elliot and Eric Armour of Trinity Romance.

"Christine and I sat together on the board of the BIA and she told me that it's getting harder and harder for local tour operators to get a leg up in the competition," Armour said. "We want to use this event to help promote local tour operators and help raise awareness of everything we've got locally."

Anything and everything tourism related will on display, as Armour pointed out there will be a wedding component to the fair along with a slack-lining area and even an appearance from Acrobag.

Several local hotels, schools, pubs and restaurants are also on board and Armour said the response from the local business community has been enthusiastic.

"Everybody seems pretty psyched about it," he said. "Taking part in some of the more established or bigger travel fairs can be pretty expensive, especially for a small business. We really designed this event to showcase the smaller companies and made it affordable for them to take part."

The fair is almost entirely booked, with Armour noting that fewer than 10 tables are available for businesses that want to take part. He also wanted non-profit agencies to be aware that they are also more than welcome to take part in the event.

Admission to the fair, which runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., is free and there will also be door prizes for those attending. Armour said there will be an "Amazing Race" style game for attendees, which involves participants gathering information from booths to win a prize.

Armour added that the after party for the event will take place at Chances Boardwalk Casino and he encouraged all those attending the fair to head on down to the casino after the event.
