Travel Fair makes strong debut

Event draws more that 400 to CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre

More than 400 attendees visited the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre to check out the first-ever Sea to Sky Travel Fair on Saturday (April 3).

According to event organizer Eric Armour, the fair which was designed to bring more awareness to local businesses had a terrific debut.

For a first-time event I think it went fantastic, he said. We had a ton of great exhibitors and a lot of great networking going on.

Armour said the response he received from exhibitors and attendees was positive.

We polled all the exhibitors and they were all psyched on how the event went, he said. They pretty much confirmed that they will be here next year and the response from people who attended the fair has been fantastic. Everyone I talked to was impressed, especially considering its a first-time event.

Among the more popular stops at the fair were Schramm Vodka, the Whistler Brewing Company and the Howe Sound Brew Pub. However, it wasnt only the local booze merchants that attracted interest, as Armour said that Squamish River Jet had a busy booth as well as The Nature Nest, which is now offering birdwatching tours. Contiki Tours display was also a popular place among attendees.

Outside of the CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre, Acrobag was set up in the West Coast Railway Heritage Parks parking lot. Those in attendance were treated to several mountain bikers doing jumps into the inflatable airbag and also had the option to leap from an adjustable crane. The slackliners also had an area set up outside, displaying their skills and allowing attendees to try jumping into the Acrobag.

Armour confirmed that the fair will return next year but details are still being worked out. He said the organizing group is toying with several different formats, including making it a two-day event. He also said they may decide to move it to an earlier weekend.

I just wanted to give a big thank you to Christine and Ben from Sunsational Vacations and all of our great exhibitors for what was a fun day, Armour said. Cant wait to do it all again next year.
