Jesse Ervin has only been in Squamish a year, but already feels at home and wants to give back.

The Noble House hairstylist is hosting a Salon Solstice fundraiser on Wednesday, June 21st, during summer solstice.

Ervin will be cutting hair by donation ($30 minimum from sunrise (5 a.m ) to sunset (9:30 p.m) at a pop-up mini salon at O’Siyam Pavillion, with all proceeds donated to Under One Roof.

He hopes to raise at least $3,000.

The 45-minute sessions have to be pre-booked via jesse@jesseervin.com.

There will also be a chance to win free haircuts for a year, among other prizes.

Like many long-time Squamish locals, Ervin — who moved here from Toronto for the mountain biking and lifestyle —  said he grew up in a family that worked hard for what it had and always gave back.

He has fond memories of volunteering as a kid.

"I've been raised into the culture of volunteering and giving back to your community," he said.

"When I moved here, it was the first place I've ever lived in my entire life [where] I felt at home right away. And I feel the sense of community here in Squamish, and I just wanted to be a part of it and give back to that."

He already cuts hair at Under One Roof once a month and so choosing it as the recipient of the funds was a natural fit, he said.

“Having already been working with Under One Roof and seeing all the good they do for their clients, I figured they would be a solid first organization to partner with,” he said.

Ervin said he hopes this fundraiser will grow over time. He foresees adding more stylists and doing the event every winter and summer solstice.

Find out more on his website. He also has a Go Fund Me page, "Salon Solstice" for those who may not want a haircut but who want to help with the fundraiser.
