Volunteer fruit pickers sought

Squamish CAN looking for help with Fruit Tree Project

The organizers of Squamish's Fruit Tree Project are looking for volunteers to help pick the fruit ripening in the yards of local residents who are unable to pick it themselves.

Squamish CAN (Climate Action Network) organizes the Fruit Tree Project to ensure that the food is not wasted. The fruit can be taken home by the volunteers and any excess is distributed throughout the community, Andrea Kittler, Fruit Tree Project co-ordinator, wrote in an email to The Chief last week.

Those who would like their fruit picked are asked to contact Kittler. Volunteers then visit the homes when the fruit is ripening to pick it, Kittler wrote. Fruit Tree Project co-ordinators bring ladders, gloves and buckets.

If you wish volunteer, if you would like to have your fruit picked, or if you have volunteered in the past and would like your name taken off the list for this year, contact Kittler at [email protected] or phone (604) 848-4067. For more information, visit www.squamishcan.net.
