Students from around the world will gather in Squamish this weekend to discuss what event organizer Aisha Balint described as “one of the most important issues of our time: waste.”
Students taking part in the Global Issues Network (GIN) conference at Quest University Friday through Sunday “will be presenting on work they do in their local communities to reduce waste and overall environmental impact, as well as collaborating on how waste systems can become more efficient,” Balint said.
The event, being organized in co-operation with Carney’s Waste Systems, Squamish ReBuild and the Squamish Climate Action Network, will include presentations by Tracey Saxby, founder of Greener Footprints and Imagine Squamish, and the makers of the award-winning documentary The Clean Bin Project.
Students are planning a clean-up in downtown Squamish on Sunday and invite the public to join in. The group will meet at 9 a.m. in the parking lot that is the venue for the regular farmers’ market on Cleveland Avenue. Those who attend are encouraged to bring a reusable mug for coffee as cups will not be provided. For more information, please email [email protected].
