Want to host a classical performance — in your living room?

Living Room Live wants to bring musicians to a Squamish home

Squamish locals sitting around a living room, perhaps drinks in hand, swaying to a live classical musical performance and then chatting with the professional performers. That is the vision of Living Room Live.

"We are an emerging organization created to fill the classical house concert niche. There are house concert networks out there doing great work, but we see very little in the way of classical house concert tours. It’s time to change that," states the Living Room Live website.

Audience members pay to attend, which helps fund the musicians and the tour.

The tour was founded by pianists Nicola Davies and Lisa Rumpel, who are currently expanding their newly created tour routes from back east to out west,  including to B.C. and, hopefully, Squamish.

Those who step up to offer their homes will receive advice and assistance in becoming a house concert host for the first time.

Hosts can either join a tour route and present diverse seasons of two to three concerts per year or can try out hosting on a one-off basis, Davies said in a news release.

Some reasons to host, according to organizers.

*You get to create a fun and unique event in your community;

*You become an arts patron, no donations needed — you offer space and audience-recruiting skills

*You can watch the music being created live a few feet away, and chat with the musicians.
