More young people desire a hybrid model than returning to the office full-time.

Life has been good for Canadians who work from home. But some workplaces have requested employees return to the office, at least on a hybrid basis.

A new study from the Angus Reid Institute reveals that employees are reluctant to return to the office. The report notes that HSBC opened two new offices in Vancouver and Toronto with 50 per cent capacity.

Fifty-six per cent of surveyed Canadians said they would look for a new job if they were asked to work from the office full-time, while nearly a quarter said they would resign on the spot. Younger Canadians are most likely to quit immediately if they were asked to return to the office full-time.

The study found that Canadians over 54 years old prefer working from home full-time, compared to younger people, who enjoy the hybrid model.

The report also highlights the changed attitudes of WFH, compared to summer 2021. Then, 39 per cent of people said they wouldn’t complain about returning to the office full-time. But at present, only 29 per cent maintain that mentality.

A gendered analysis reveals that women are less willing to return to the office than men.

The study noted most Canadians feel they're productive while working from home; three in five Canadians said they do not struggle with managing projects.
