You might as well go big or home, as they say.

Britannia Mine Museum is going big, playing host to its first drag show on what it says is the province's largest drag runway.

On Friday, Aug. 5, drag performers will transform Britannia Mine Museum’s historic Mill into a performance space for Old Town, New Queens: Pride Night at Britannia Mine Museum, an after-hours event.

“One of this exhibit’s goals is to diversify the voices we are sharing through the museum’s displays,” said Derek A. Jang, manager of interpretive delivery, in a news release. “It seems like a natural fit to share our spotlight with some of the amazing queer performers from Squamish and Vancouver. Drag is an underground art form, so what better venue than a historic mine?”

The event will celebrate the museum’s summer exhibition “More Than a Mine: Recreation in a Mining Town” which opened on May 20.

That exhibit highlights celebrations and recreational activities at Britannia Mine during its mining years between 1904 and 1974.

Entry to the Pride event includes a 45-minute drag performance as well as evening access to the recreation exhibit and the museum’s permanent exhibits.

Drag performers will be available for meet and greets at the Gold Panning exhibit throughout the evening, and a limited number of "deluxe" tickets will also include access to the museum’s underground tour.

Old Town New Queens is a dry event; non-alcoholic beverages and a limited selection of food will be available for purchase on the lower site, according to the release.
