Sea to Sky Entertainment in association with the Squamish Youth Theatre is going to be producing another major musical production this fall. The play is The Rocky Horror Show. Director Adriane Polo, who did The Sound of Music last year, wanted to do a more festive play this time around Halloween time.

"When you think Halloween you think of dress-up, so this play was the perfect choice", she says.

It took three months to get the rights to the musical, which not only had to be approved by the publisher but by the author as well.

"The royalty fees were enormous and had to be paid up front," says Polo, who had to get a company loan. Thanks to the Squamish Credit Union, which fronted the money for the production, the dates are now set.

The show will have a three-week run from Oct. 13 to 30, which will include Centennial Theatre in North Vancouver, MY Place in Whistler, and the Eagle Eye Theatre in Squamish. The musical director for this play will be Fran Booth. Fran has orchestrated many musicals for Howe Sound Secondary School, community and professional theatres.

And of course there is the lead character, the delicious Dr. Frank N. Furter.

"We knew we needed a person with strong vocals and a strong presence who can have fun with this part and doesn't mind dressing up. Richard Trann came to mind right away and lucky for us he agreed to do the part", says Polo.

All the other parts will be cast in June. Look for the audition notices in this paper late May with more details. In the meantime the company is putting together a production team and asks people who want to be part of the crew to contact Adriane Polo at 604-898-5930 or email [email protected].
