Deluxe Combo Platter served to big screen

Entertainment

Many movies have been shot in Squamish, but Deluxe Combo Platter is set in our community.

This story of a small-town waitress who vies with a leggy blonde from the city for the attention of the small town's most eligible bachelor was filmed here and the makers of the movie decided against converting us to Beaver, Oregon or some other fictitious community.

The filming of Deluxe Combo Platter took place late in 2003.

The movie actually debuted last September, but is just in wide release now.

Laurie Pavon Solis of Britannia was responsible for casting extras and she cast many Squamish residents as extras in locations like the Cliffside Pub, the pavilion Downtown, the Sea to Sky Hotel, Style Zone, Squamish Funeral Chapel, Brennan Park and the former Elks Hall on Second Avenue. Squamish's Adriane Polo chose the locations for the film and Frank Ryan was the assistant locations manager.

Polo viewed the final product when it debuted at the Vancouver International Film Festival last summer.

"I liked it because it is a heart warming story," she said. "It is a gentle story, a love story."The cast includes Marla Sokoloff (The Practice), Monika Schnarre, Dave Thomas (Doug of SCTV's Bob and Doug McKenzie) and Jennifer Tilly (Bride of Chucky).
