From dance parties to fall fairs: What's happening in Squamish

There’s no shortage of things to do around town as summer winds down. From high-energy dance parties to nostalgic movie nights and a beloved fall fair, here are six standout events coming soon to Squamish.

Here are six upcoming events that local organizers uploaded to our online events calendar.

1. Aug. 20, put your dancing shoes (or hiking boots if you are OG Squamish) on for Just Dance: A Feel-Good Party, at Trickster's Hideout, located at 38005 Cleveland Ave., from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. 

"Just Dance: A Feel-Good Party Bust a move and join the crew at Squamish Adventure Inn for an 80s-themed Just Dance night -all in support of the Squamish Food Bank," reads the listing.

2. On Aug. 22, there's Ryan Harris Live at Arcteryx Academy, at Junction Park, located at 37950 Cleveland Ave., from 8 p.m. to midnight. 

"Ryan Harris headline show Live at Arcteryx Academy... No tickets or pre-registration necessary, free live music at Pavilion Park. All ages welcome," 

3. On Aug. 23, plan to take in Bag Raiders (Live) @ Arc'teryx Academy Music Series, at the Brackendale Art Gallery, located at 41950 Government Rd., from 6 to 10 p.m.

"Australian dance royalty Bag Raiders return with new music, a new label, and a new lease on life in 2022. Not many artists have had the immense effect on the youth of today quite like Bag Raiders. Whether that be sound-tracking many a sweaty night on a dance floor, sing-a-longs at the biggest festivals in the world, or becoming the anthem to one of the most iconic moments in the internet’s history, the electronic duo have done it all," reads the listing.

4. On Sept. 4, head to the Squamish Library for It's Gravy When You're in the A/V: Movie Nostalgia (Back to the Future) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

"Bring your blankets and get comfortable at the Squamish Public Library as we host a screening of the most definitive movies of the 80s and 90s. Romance, dramas, thrillers and horror, come revel in the memories and nostalgia as we present a new classic every month," reads the listing.

"Please ensure to check movie ratings before you register for the event. Some of the movies shown may not be suitable for younger viewers. As we are watching movies that were made in the 80s and 90s, note that there may be outdated depictions, language, or cultural references that reflect the time period in which the movies were produced."

5. On Sept. 5, the Brackendale Fall Fair is back for two days, at the Brackendale Farmers Institute Park at 41976 Government Rd. Day 1 is on from 4:15 to 6 p.m.

Day 1 of the fair includes exhibit entry & judging for various categories. Entries can win cash and coveted ribbons for first, second, third. Displays are on Saturday, Sept 6.

6. On Sept. 6, Thea Wang plays Junction Park, from 5 to 9 p.m. 

"There is something wonderfully unique that precedes Thea Wang's solar system. With a deep intensity random encounters, loneliness and love is transformed into sonorous short stories that open doors into others' lives, where we get to be guests for a little while. Melodic pop songs take unexpected leaps and fits her magical voice perfectly, electronics and samples are helping to modernize a traditional acoustic singer/songwriter genre at the same time as Joni's heart beats behind it. And soon comes the debut album," reads the listing.
