By now you've no doubt heard of the new pop culture phenomenon that is Borat. The Kazakh reporter is merely one of the clever fictional characters from British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen (AKA Ali G).
When Sacha's Ali G character tried to make it to film, it just didn't work due to the absence of his trademark attack on the unsuspecting. With Borat it's all hits as he truly ticks off Kazakhstan by passing himself off as a fuzzy foreigner encouraging people to say very un-PC things. It's actually amazing how little it takes for people with unpopular opinions to admit them when they perceive themselves to be in like-minded company.
Immediately after viewing the movie, I have to wonder just who is in on the joke and who is simply gonzo filmmaker road kill. Some you can tell, for example the frat boys were not in on it and have a lawsuit pending. But there must be more judging from reports that the cops were called 91 times during the production.
Is it a good movie?
Well, right off the bat this movie is better than any other comedy in recent years simply because the over exposed Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, and Ben Stiller are nowhere to be seen. This and the fact that he has the brilliant ability to expose intense racist, homophobic and misogynistic ingrates with bloody hilarious results.Some may wonder if you should wait for the DVD.
No! Trust me, there is a hotel room wrestling scene that truly must be seen on the biggest screen available.
