Potential stars in the making are again flocking to sign up for the second annual Broadway or Bust musical theatre summer camp presented by Road Trip Productions. After the rousing success of last summer's inaugural presentation, Annie, Broadway or Bust returns bigger and better than ever, according to artistic director Ryan Mooney.

Mooney said he brought together teachers with "an abundance of skills" to hone the talents and tone the vocal cords of 50 young people for three weeks in July so that, by August, they'll bring down the house with two musicals and a revue show.

Last year's production was so popular, said Mooney, that the team has hired three full time assistants to help out with the youths aged seven to 18, who will be attending the program. Assistant musical director Alison Bachert was also asked to join the team full time and along with the new employees, the group also welcomes back local theatrical ingénue Sarah Fuller for her second year with the summer intensive.

The senior class will present Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's Broadway musical Once on this Island with direction and choreography by Mooney and musical direction by Melissa Bachert. The junior theatre class will put on the Disney musical version of Aladdin that includes music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice. Road Trip Productions producer Shayan Bayat will direct Aladdin with Mooney as choreographer and musical direction by Bachert.

Spots are filling up quickly with 41 of the 50 positions already claimed. The summer program runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday from July 10 to 29. And as with last year, the producers are looking for sponsorship money for those who may not be able to afford the full cost of the program.

"Road Trip Productions is committed to keeping the intensive cost-effective for young people and their families and has kept the price to $375 for the full three weeks," said Mooney.

For more information on sponsorship or to sign up for the summer program, e-mail Ryan Mooney at [email protected] or call 778-329-1956.
