Everyone likes to sneak a peak.
To scan the living room for design ideas, privately scoff at the cotton candy pink paint in a bathroom or steal organizational tips. On Wikipedia alone there are 88 shows listed that fall under the category of home renovation. It’s that entrenched playful snoopiness that is one of the motivators behind Realty Reality, a B.C.-based television show
that offers prospective buyers a tour of listed properties.
“People just love that stuff,” said Tracy Collingridge of Sutton West Coast Realty. “They like to see how pricing compares to other areas.”
Last month, crews from Cedarwood Productions Inc. were in Squamish to film an episode for the second series of the house hunters’ show. Collingridge was in front of the camera showcasing three homes to a prospective buyer. The Whistler resident toured her client around properties in Brackendale, Garibaldi Highlands and Valleycliffe.
“It should be really good exposure for Squamish,” Collingridge said, noting the episode should air on CHEK TV this winter.
The shoot marked the first time Squamish was featured in the series. Unfortunately, the scenic shots were filmed on the only rainy day of the summer, Collingridge lamented, before noting the skies did clear for the filming crew when they toured the houses.
Collingridge said she read up on Squamish before the taping.
“The best part was that I am more familiar with Squamish now,” she said. “I kind of fell in love with Squamish.”
Realty Reality is a 13-part reality show which debuted last January. It visited hotspots throughout the province. Cedarwood Productions also produced the B.C.-based shows The Hard Way and Flavours of the West Coast.
