There are some new things in the works for Squamish Days Loggers Sports this year.Entertainer Norm Foote is bringing two new musical events to Squamish's annual summer festival.

The two new events are in addition to the Mid Summer Jamboree Foote hosts every year. The first new event is called Women and Song and it is scheduled for Thursday, July 23 at Eagle Eye Theatre.

The show will feature musicians Shari Ulrich and Linda Kidder along with Squamish performers Jennifer Lauren, Leanne Lamour, Carolyn Grass and Kori Rowe.

"These singer/songwriters are great," said Foote.

Ulrich is a west coast musician who scored hits in the 1980s and has performed with Foote in the past. Ulrich will perform at Women and Song with her daughter.

Kidder is an artist whose work is being produced by Foote and released on Foote's own record label, Inarow Records.

Foote describes Kidder's music as a mix of jazz and blues.

Tickets for Women and Song are available from Mostly Books, Billy's Bouquet and Kaos Kids at $18 each.

The second new event is a play on the popular television shows that feature talented young singers who get voted off the show by viewers.

American Idol and Canadian Idol are the inspiration for Squamish Idol on Friday, July 29 at the pavilion in Squamish Junction Park following the family-oriented Mid Summer Jamboree.

"It is a show of Squamish talent," said Foote.

Those interested in taking the challenge will get to perform one song to a backing track. Foote said performers may also sing along with a musical instrument and bands are invited to take part if their set-up is simple.

"We've really got some top notch entertainment," said Foote.

He's hoping interest in the show will be high with numerous entertainers playing in front of a large crowd.

Foote is encouraging anyone interested in performing at Squamish Idol to send their names and song details by e-mail to [email protected].

"It is going to be a good show of talent on that day," Foote said of Squamish Idol and the other musical events planned for July 29.
