This weekend, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday (Jan.

This weekend, starting at 7 p.m. on Friday (Jan. 21), My Squamish Magazine on Shaw Channel 10 will be airing a one-hour special highlighting the Waves of Compassion benefit (put on by the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association and Rotary) held at the Brennan Leisure Park last Saturday.

Denise and I will be hosting it telethon-style between segments and will be encouraging our viewers to call a number that will be scrolling on the bottom of the screen- 604-815-4004. Operators in fact, will be standing by to take your credit card number (courtesy of Connections Message Centre). If you wish to pay by cash or cheque, we will be giving out contact information to Sea to Sky Community Services who will be providing tax receipts. All proceeds will be directed towards the local Humanity Village Project (www.humanityvillage.org).

We will be airing performances by local talent, pledges and real life stories of survival, interviews with faces in the crowd including Councilor Jeff Dawson and Mayor Ian Sutherland, and featuring Norm Foote, Denise Imbeau and Tamara Stanners, the MCs of the event which raised over $42,000 in one day. For a town with a population of 15,000 that's pretty impressive.

We are hoping that this show will inspire people who did not have a chance to go to the event or who did and couldn't donate at the time, to reach into their pockets and continue the momentum of this charitable and worthwhile cause.

My Squamish Magazine airs on Shaw Cable 10 Friday (Jan. 21) at 7, 9 and 11 p.m. and Saturday through Monday (Jan. 22-24) at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 7 p.m., 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.
