Squamish is going to invest $1.2 million to upgrade the Squamish River dike.

The Squamish River Dike will be raised and widened by 800 metres from just south of the West Coast Railway Heritage Park to the Mamquam River rail bridge.

The project will also include reinforcement of previously raised sections of the dike to enhance erosion control.

Three levels of government each contributed just over $600,000 to the project. The provincial and federal government contributions to the project totals more than $1.2 million.

The funding details were first announced on May 2. The announcement in Squamish was held at the spot where an earlier upgrade project ended. This $1.2 million dollars will continue a project that was started earlier.
