An additional resident at Hilltop House has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the weekly BC Centre for Disease Control report, which was released Thursday.
As of Jan. 28, five residents and two staff have tested positive.
No deaths have been associated with the outbreak.
The outbreak was first reported on Jan. 13.
The Jan. 21 report showed four residents and two staff had tested positive at the long-term care home, which serves the entire Sea to Sky Corridor.
Residents' group activities and non-essential services have been cancelled for now to prevent further spread, according to Vancouver Coastal Health.
There are also currently visitor restrictions in place and restrictions on staff working at multiple healthcare facilities.
"A VCH medical health officer is leading the outbreak response at Hilltop House and is working closely with VCH experts in facility outbreak management, as well as Hilltop House leadership and staff to ensure appropriate infection control precautions are in place, as well as providing staffing and operational support to ensure residents continue to receive the care they need," said a health authority spokesperson in an emailed statement sent to the Chief.
An infection specialist also heads to Hilltop House on a regular basis to provide training and to ensure staff are taking all necessary precautions, according to the spokesperson.
"VCH also directs proactive testing of residents during long-term care outbreaks, even in residents with low-grade or no symptoms."
The first shot starts building protection. A booster second shot weeks later is required to maximize the effectiveness of theCOVID-19 vaccines that are currently available.
The next BC Centre for Disease Control report on long-term care outbreaks is expected on Feb. 4.
**Please note, this story has been updated since it was first posted to clarify in the headline that the additional case is not necessarily new in the last few days, something that VCH did not originally reveal to The Chief.
