Hats and Fashion from 1900s to 1700s will be on parade at a special presentation at St. John's Anglican Church tonight (April 28) at 7:30 p.m. It is an educational fashion show and international speaker and museum consultant Ivan Sayers will provide the excellent commentary. Door prizes will be presented to those who would like to attend in their own fashion hat. Tickets at $12 each are available at Mostly Books and Billie's Bouquet.



A wonderful evening of music is in store for those attending the Sea to Sky Singers concert at the Squamish Baptist Church (2262 Read Crescent) tomorrow night (April 29) at 7:30 p.m. The theme Songs of the Sea will no doubt bring back happy memories to many in the audience. The director, Veronica McPhee is accompanied by pianist Tim Shoults. Tickets are available at Billie's Bouquet, Mostly Books, Highland Video and at the door at $10 adults and $7 seniors and students.



Do plan on attending the quilt show sponsored by the Squamish Valley Quilters Guild at the Squamish Public Library this weekend. There will be a fine selection of quilts and quilted items on display and quilters will also be on hand to answer any of your questions. Tomorrow (April 29) the hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday (April 30) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.



The Squamish Valley Equestrian Association (SVEA) is holding a consignment sale of used tack, riding clothes and horse equipment on Sunday (April 30) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise funds for the club. The sale will be held at Raven Stables (this is the last property at the end of Raven Drive, off Loggers Lane). If you require more information, please call Alison at 604-898-3359. The Squamish Public Library invites the Book Clubs of Squamish to a May Day Evening Social on Monday (May 1) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Meeting Room. This is a chance to compare and contrast, learn about some of the services with which the library can support and assist your members and meetings. Please RSVP and include a contact name, the number of members in your club and how many plan on attending.



Tomorrow (April 29) the Beginners Bird Walk will gather at 9:30 a.m. at the sign at the entrance to the estuary at the west end of Vancouver Street. The walkers will be checking the new bird arrivals including humming birds and the mountain bluebirds. The Squamish Bear Network is pleased to have Bear Researcher Michael Allen in attendance at a fundraiser at the Squamish Public Library on Thursday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. Michael Allen has been studying black bear behaviour and ecology near people for 20 years with the last 13 years under the Whistler Black Bear Project. His photo letter cards will be for sale and admission for adults and children is a donation to the Squamish Bear Network.



In April, the Rotary 200 Club winners were: Brenda and Brent Bloxham, $100; Al and Rene McIntosh, $120; Bryan Couture, $130; and Audrey Boyd, $150.



The Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at the Squamish Pavilion on Cleveland Avenue on Friday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m. We will drive down to the waterfront for a walk along the Nexen Trail. For more info, call me at 604-815-0152.



Brackendale Elementary School is celebrating its 50th anniversary including the 10th anniversary of the new school building. Former teachers, administrative staff, students and parents are invited to an assembly at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6. It will be a special time of reminiscing, meeting old friends and enjoying coffee and cake.



There is a special age group at this year's Star Search on June 9 at the Eagle Eye Theatre. Youngsters ages six to 12 are invited to enter along with the youth, ages 13 to 18 years. This will be the 14th annual Star Search sponsored by the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association.



The opening of the new Community Clayworks Studio at 38280 Westway in Valleycliffe is tomorrow evening (April 29) from 6 to 9 p.m. Anyone interested in ceramics and pottery is invented and it is hoped a small Potters Guild will be formed in the future. The Spring Garage Sale and Raffle sponsored by the Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General Hospital will be held on Saturday, May 6 at St. Jon's Anglican Church from 9 a.m. to noon. The raffle cash prizes are: $250, $125 and $75 and members will be selling tickets at Extra Foods this weekend.



The fourth annual Brackendale Bluegrass Festival is set for the Brackendale Art Gallery on Saturday, May 6. Workshops for banjo and mandolin will be held in the afternoon with the concert Saturday night. Tickets are available at Mostly Books and at the BAG.



A fun day for all the family is guaranteed at the annual fundraiser for the Howe Sound Women's Centre and held at the Sea to Sky Stables tomorrow (April 29) from 11 am. To 7 p.m. The Stables are located off the Squamish Valley Road in Brackendale. There will be entertainers, pony and wagon rides, carnival games, silent auction, more games and lots of great food and drinks. All proceeds go to the HSWC and your patronage would be appreciated.
