There will be a reception for artist Karen Goodfellow in the Foyer Gallery at the Squamish Public Library Saturday (Feb. 11) from 1 to 3 p.m.

A harpist will be in attendance and refreshments will be served.

If you like to get outdoors early in the morning, consider participating with members of the Squamish Environmental Conserv-ation Society as they conduct their monthly bird count on Sunday (Feb. 12).

The Teen Book Club at the Squamish Public Library will meet on Tuesday (Feb. 14) at 6:30 p.m. when the group will be discussing An Earthly Knight by Janet McNaughton. Pizza is provided.

There is still time to pick up a copy of the book as new teens are always welcome.

After spending a month in China, Woldy and Cathy Sosnowsky will share their personal journey with interesting stories and a slide show at the Brackendale Art Gallery tonight (Feb. 10) at 8 p.m. Admission is by donation.

The Eagle Watch Society volunteers' dinner will be held at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Saturday (Feb. 11) at 6 p.m.

The Squamish Food Bank Society will hold its annual general meeting on Monday (Feb. 13) at 7 p.m. in Trinity Hall, Squamish United Church on Fourth Avenue.

Do take your sweetie to the special Valentine Skate tonight (Feb. 10) from 8:40 to 9:40 p.m. at Brennan Park Recreation Centre. On Friday, Feb. 17 there is a Pro-D Day Skate from 1 to 3 p.m. Also at Brennan Park on Feb. 17 is a Pro-D Day Get Up and Go Camp for ages seven to 12 years from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Social Planning Council executive is comprised of a cross-section of the community and its purpose is to create an integrated community approach to monitoring, researching, evaluating and advocating on local social planning issues and needs.

The council promotes collaborative social planning and development of solutions that improve and sustain our quality of life.

The participation of the public is welcome and the next meeting is planned for Thursday (Feb. 16) from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Squamish Adventure Centre boardroom.

Meetings in the future will alternate between daytime and evenings.

The Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at the Squamish Pavillion on Cleveland Avenue on Friday, Feb. 17 at 9:30 a.m. We will drive down to the waterfront for a walk along the Nexen trail.

There is a fundraiser for the Don Ross Outdoor Leadership Program and it will be held at the Eagle Eye Theatre on Friday, Feb. 17 with doors opening at 6:30 p.m.

There will be a presentation by Maria Coffey and Dag Goering on Adventures in Vietnam. A silent auction will also be held. Tickets at $20 each are on sale at Valhalla Pure, Climb On and Tantalus Bike Shop.

The Squamish arts and cultural festival Wild at Art takes place on Feb. 24, 25 and 26.

There is an Adventure Centre V.I.P. Gala on Friday, Feb. 24 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and concert pianist Janina Fialkowska will perform at the Eagle Eye Theatre at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $20 for youth and seniors.

It's Family Day at the Adventure Centre on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26 is Heritage Day.

The four winners for February in the monthly draw for the Rotary Club 200 are Karen LaRiviere ($100), Stein Hoff ($120), April Turner ($130) and Shandra Martin ($150).

The early bird draw winners for the next series was held on Jan. 26 and the three $100 winners were Coleen Carney, Jim Mulholland/Ivor Hurst and Bent Mortensen.

The final draw of the series for two $1,000 prizes and $200 will be held at Rotary's luncheon on March 5.

The 2006-2007 tickets are going fast. Ask any Rotarian for your personalized ticket. Remember, nearly $200,000 has been returned to the community through this fundraiser.

On Pro D Day next Friday (Feb. 17) Maria Coffey will be at the Squamish Public Library at 10 a.m. to give a reading for children from her books A Cat in a Kayak, A Cat Adrift and A Seal in the Family. On Thursday (Feb. 16) she will review her book Where the Mountain Casts its Shadow: The Dark Side of Extreme Adventure. at 7 p.m. in the library meeting room.

On Saturday (Feb. 11) the Cedar Valley School will host an open house from 1 to 3 p.m., including a 20-minute presentation on Waldorf education.

The school is located south of the West Coast Railway Heritage Park at 39400 Government Rd.

Residents and guests will gather at Hilltop House on Wednesday (Feb. 15) at 2 p.m. to celebrate the monthly birthdays. Those to be honoured this month are Connie Lloyd, Axel Westlund and Margaret Granger.
