It has become very popular over the years and on Friday and Saturday (March 24 and 25) at 8 p.m. Squamish Youth Theatre will present the sixth annual family-oriented Youthfest at the Eagle Eye Theatre. There are six plays to be presented, and that means more than 50 cast members of all ages will get their chance to perform for you. Youthfest is produced by Adriane Polo and a young man who has been on stage many times, Warren Daske, will make his debut as a director of one of the plays. Tickets are now available at Mostly Books and Highland Video at $8 for adults and $7 for students and seniors.



The guest speaker at the Squamish Gardeners' meeting on Monday (March 20) at 7 p.m. at the Squamish Public Library will be Gary Lewis, owner of Phoenix Perennials in Richmond. He has been captivating members of garden clubs in our province for the last several years with his information-packed presentations. He will take you on a virtual tour of the world to discover a multitude of rare, uncommon and underused perennials for your garden. The $5 admission for non-members gives you a chance to win the door prize.



One week from tonight on Friday, March 24, the Squamish Women's Health Network presents a free evening entitled Squamish Women in action at Gelato Carina on Cleveland Avenue from 7 to 9 p.m. The guests include Mae Palm, famous for her many marathon and Ironman successes; Martina Franko and Deanna Lewise, who are both soccer players; Kim Styles, who is into kiteboarding; and mountain biker Lorraine Ross. Each will share their stories and hopefully encourage other women to get involved. There is free child care available at the Sea to Sky Community Services Parent and Tot Drop-In Centre at 38116 Loggers Lane, behind Gelato Carina. No reservation is necessary and free public transit is also available for women and children - just inform the bus driver you are attending the Women's Health Event. The kickoff for the house-to-house campaign for the Canadian Cancer Society will be the daffodil sales on Saturday, March 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Canadian Tire, Save-On-Foods and MarketPlace IGA.



The first Beginners Bird Watch will be held on Saturday, March 25 and participants are asked to meet at 9:30 a.m. at the entrance to the Estuary at the western end of Vancouver Street. It will take approximately two hours and birders will be looking for spring migrants - hummingbirds, ducks and mountain bluebirds. If you wish more information, please call Marcia at 604-898-9420.



Donations to St. Joseph's Thrift Shop on Cleveland Avenue are always welcomed. The store is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.



The Women's Auxiliary to Squamish General hospital will hold its spring raffle and garage sale on May 6. Members will be at Save-On-Foods this weekend (March 17-19) selling tickets for the raffle from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The prizes are cash prizes of $250, $125 and $75.



The final four winners for the 2005-2006 Rotary Club 200 contest was held March 2. The $2,000 grand prize winner was Dave Hinds, Rick Hunter and Gerry Boyd each won $1,000 and the Squamish Nation won $200. This is the 30th anniversary of Club 200 and ticket buyers have helped return nearly $200,000 to the community.



The Squamish Hearts in Motion Walking Club is sponsored by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. and the Yukon. The goal is to get more people healthy. Our walks are approximately 40 minutes in length but you can go for longer or shorter periods if you wish. The annual fee is $10 and this year you receive an umbrella or travel mug. Individual activity record cards are available and pins are given when you reach certain milestones. Our walks are mostly on flat ground. The Squamish Environmental Conservation Society holds its monthly leisurely interpretive estuary walk on Sunday (March 19). Meet at 1 p.m. outside the Howe Sound Inn and please dress for the weather.



Between Shifts Theatre is holding auditions for one-act plays to be performed at the Brackendale Art Gallery at the end of May. The dates for auditions are Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m. and Sunday, March 26 and noon at the Sea to Sky Hotel.
