ABOUT TOWN: Music and romance to support Humanity Village

Another fundraiser for Humanity Village and the Howe Sound Dry Grads' Safe Drive program is the Valentine's Day dance at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company Saturday (Feb. 12) from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be a silent auction, 50-50 draw and balloon sales and tax receipts will be given for donations. Tickets at $15 each are available at the door.



In keeping with the Valentine's theme, the Royal Canadian Legion invites everyone to a Valentine's Breakfast on Sunday (Feb. 13) from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Tuck into pancakes and ham or sausages for just $5. Meanwhile, a sale of local crafts and other items will be displayed at the Legion downstairs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. along with home-baked goods.



Famous Movie Monologues of Love and Lust will be presented at the Eagle Eye Theatre Saturday night (Feb. 12) at 8 p.m. The cast, which includes actors from Whistler, Pemberton and Squamish, also performs at Millennium Place in Whistler tonight (Feb. 11). The performances are presented by Between Shifts Theatre in Squamish and Short Skirt Theatre in Whistler. Tickets at $10 each are available locally at Billie's Bouquet.



A fundraiser at the Grizzly Bar and Grrrilll Saturday night (Feb. 12) with burgers and beer from 6 to 9 p.m. is in support of the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron #835. The evening will also include a silent auction, music and dancing.



A Valentine's Day luncheon will be hosted by the Anglican Church Women at St. John's Anglican Church (behind the Sea to Sky Hotel) Saturday (Feb. 12) from 12 noon to 2 p.m. There will also be a home baking table and raffle.



The Squamish Environ-mental Conservation Society extends an invitation to all birders to attend the monthly bird count on Sunday (Feb. 13). Please meet at the Howe Sound Inn at 8 a.m. For more information call Judith at 604-892-3340.



The Squamish Children's Chorus invites other children ages five to 10 years to a Valentine's Day party on Monday (Feb. 14) from 4 to 5 p.m. for fun with songs and music games. Veronica at 604-892-7819 would like to hear from youngsters wishing to attend.



A six-week facilitated bereavement group for those suffering the loss of a loved one will be held in Squamish each Tuesday starting March 1 to April 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. each week. There is no charge for these sessions and those wishing more information or to register are asked to contact Wendy at 604-898-4981.



The Howe Sound Women's Centre is looking for women who are willing to share their custody, access and maintenance stories to be compiled in a research project. The research project is supporting an initiative to bring a free legal resource clinic into Squamish. All identifies are confidential. Please call Karen at 604-892-5748.



A Complicated Kindness by Mirian Towes is the book to be discussed at the adult book discussion at the Squamish Public Library on Wednesday (Feb. 16) from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Pick up a copy at the front desk of the library and join the group.



Auditions for a Monty Python revue will be held at Sea to Sky Community Services Society's offices on Second Avenue from 2 to 4 p.m. this Sunday (Feb. 13). I'm sure Tom and Carol Ann Eppele are very proud of their son Joe, who accepted a NCAA football scholarship with the Washington State Cougars last week. Hats off also to another young man from Squamish, Keegan Murphy, who finished in the top 10 at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships recently.
