Squamish RCMP are investigating the theft of an airplane propeller from the Squamish Airport last week.
Last Tuesday (Sept. 17), police received a report of a propeller having been stolen from a Piper Cherokee while the aircraft was parked at the airport sometime between Monday (Sept. 16) and Sept. 17 at 1 p.m., RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride wrote in a statement.
No other aircraft were targeted. The propeller, valued around $5,000, was a Sensenich 74DM6-0-60 model, silver/grey, with a maroon-coloured spinner (base).
A white pickup truck with a crew cab that wasn't familiar to those at the airport was seen in the area on the morning of Sept. 16. Police are following up on that tip, but it's not known whether the truck is related to the theft.
Cash, ID stolen from vehicle
Last Tuesday (Sept. 17) at around 3 a.m., police received a report of a theft from a vehicle that was parked in the 1400 block of Pemberton Avenue. A woman who was delivering the morning newspaper had cash and identification stolen by a man she found inside her vehicle as she exited a building. The man who fled the scene is described as a Caucasian in his 20s, slim build, approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall. At the time he was wearing a black ballcap and an olive-coloured T-shirt and blue jeans. Police are reviewing video surveillance in their efforts to identify a suspect.
Laptop stolen
On Friday (Sept. 10), police received a report of a vehicle having been broken into while parked in the lot at Murrin Provincial Park between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A 2005 Mercury Mariner had its rear window smashed and a grey Dell laptop computer, valued at around $1,500, was stolen.
Driver arrested
A 43-year-old Port Moody man faces a charge of driving while prohibited after police stopped a vehicle he was driving on Cleveland Avenue on Sunday (Sept. 22) at around 6 p.m. Police had received a report of an erratic driver northbound on Highway 99 near Furry Creek, and located the vehicle just west of Highway 99 in Squamish. The registered owner was driving, but was prohibited from driving, Pride said. He was arrested and both his vehicle and licence were seized.
Merchandise stolen
On Sunday (Sept. 22) at around 9:30 p.m., police responded to a report of a theft having occurred at the Squamish Wal-Mart. Two males were reported to have left the store with a large bag of merchandise and a large plastic tote container. An officer on patrol pulled over a dark-coloured pickup truck nearby, driving without its lights on, and located the items from the store inside the vehicle. The merchandise was valued at around $1,000. Two Squamish men, aged 35 and 34, were arrested.
