Alcohol was a factor in two of the three incidences of alleged assaults reported by Squamish RCMP during the past week.
Two of the three incidents occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 27, in downtown Squamish, RCMP Sgt. Wayne Pride said in a statement.
At approximately 4 p.m., police responded to a report of an assault at a home in the 37000 block of Fourth Avenue. A 14-year-old Squamish male was arrested a short distance from the home, allegedly for assaulting his mother.
On Dec. 27 at around 10:45 p.m., RCMP members responded to another reported assault at a home in the 1300 block of Victoria St. A 38-year-old man from Aldergrove was found hiding in an apartment and arrested for allegedly assaulting two females and breaking a window. A verbal dispute escalated into the alleged assault, and those involved knew each other, Pride said. Alcohol was a factor in the incident, he said.
On Saturday (Dec. 31), police arrested a 52-year-old Squamish man for allegedly assaulting a female at a home in the 38000 block of Fourth Avenue. A verbal dispute turned physical between the two, who lived at the same home, Pride said. Again, alcohol was involved.
Copper wire stolen
Last Wednesday, Dec. 28, Squamish RCMP received a report about the theft of five reels of copper tech cable having been stolen from a B.C. Hydro site on Squamish Valley Road on Dec. 26-27 between the hours of 12:15 p.m. and 1:45 a.m. Police are examining surveillance video showing the suspects at work, Pride said.
Hydro site broken into
On Thursday, Dec. 29, police received a report of another B.C. Hydro site having been targeted, this time on Tidewater Way in Lions Bay. Thieves cut through a fence sometime during the previous seven days. Although numerous items had been strewn about, nothing appears to have been stolen, Pride said.
Theft from RVs
Police are also investigating the theft of electronics after two campers that were parked across the road from Eagle View Campground were broken into recently. The incident, reported to police on Saturday (Dec. 31), appears to have occurred sometime during the previous two weeks. The interior of the two campers was ransacked and the electronic devices stolen, Pride said.
Celebration mostly peaceful
Police reported only a few minor incidents, including some noisy parties and alcohol-related calls, on New Year's Eve. "Liquor establishments were busy, with closing times extended, but with police presence and the largely festive mood, our calls for service were reasonable," Pride said.
