Go By Bike Week runs from May 30-June 3, 2022, around Metro Vancouver and Burnaby has four celebration stations to visit.

Go By Bike Week is off to a raring start, and further celebrations in Burnaby are just around the corner.

Hub Cycling’s region-wide event, formerly known as Bike to Work Week, includes a variety of festivities to encourage cycling.

“We want to just see more people of all ages and abilities cycling more across Metro Vancouver,” said Kate Shen, the partnerships and events manager at Hub Cycling.

Shen said it’s a community event that people can participate in together.

“People really like doing it at the workplace, with their colleagues for camaraderie, but also with their friends and family,” she said.

In Burnaby, four drop-in celebration stations will be set up around the city on Wednesday and Thursday in the morning and afternoon.

All stations include free basic bike maintenance, snacks and cycling resources, including information on cycling around large trucks and Project 529 bike registration. Some will provide free bike bells and reflectors and raffle prizes, depending on availability.

The morning station at Simon Fraser University will include a continental breakfast and hot beverages.

Shen said some cyclists try to visit as many celebration stations as they can, all around Metro Vancouver (there’s a total of 31).

Bike to Work Week began in 2007, and changed its name to Go By Bike Week in 2021, as the organization saw more people working from home due to the pandemic.

“We want to encourage more ridership, so all trips count,” Shen said.
