Alleged cocaine dealer arrested

Briefs from the Squamish RCMP

On April 23 at 3:40 p.m., members of Sea to Sky Regional General Investigation Section acting on information stopped a 2007 dark grey Chevy Silverado pick up truck on Highway 99 near the Stawamus Chief. The 42-year-old male driver and a 30-year-old male passenger were arrested. The investigation led to the seizure of the vehicle, the confiscation of a substantial amount of cocaine and money and has led to the two males being charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). Both males were released on promises to appear and will be in court on June 17 to answer to the charges.

Witness helps nab alleged thief

On April 26 at noon, RCMP received a call from a helpful alert citizen who witnessed a male smash windows in two vehicles at the Smoke Bluff parking lots off of Loggers Lane. The citizen was able to remain on the scene and supply an accurate and detailed description of the male and a direction of travel.

The 44-year-old male suspect was located a short distance away and arrested for mischief to property and theft under $5,000. After being arrested, a search revealed valuables and property on his possession that were stolen from the vehicles he entered. The male, who is known to police and is of no fixed address, was held in custody to attend court on April 27.

Jean C. Langlois was remanded in custody until April 29.

"These incidents are often acts to support drug and alcohol usage," said Cpl. Dave Ritchie. "The suspects are not concerned with the damage and havoc caused by their actions, but are in search of property and valuables that they can grab quickly and trade or sell to support their habits.

"Often hard to solve because the reports are often received well after the fact when owners return to their vehicles and find them damaged and entered. Squamish RCMP would like to thank the witness in this case for partnering with them to help solve and prevent crimes in the community.

Zero tolerance

On April 24 at 11:50 p.m., a member on patrol observed a 17-year-old male drinking from a can of beer while walking on Government Road at Eagle Run. The male was stopped issued with a violation ticket for minor in possession. On April 25 at 11:15 p.m., a member on patrol observed two males drinking liquor in the parking lot of the Shady Tree Pub. The two adult males were checked, two cans and three bottles of beer were located and the men were issued with violation tickets for consuming liquor in public. Squamish RCMP wish to remind the public that as summertime approaches and a tendency toward minors possessing liquor and a general trend to more open public drinking of alcohol, that there will be a zero tolerance policy on the matter.

Drunk driving report leads to arrest

On April 26 at 2:16 a.m., a citizen reported a possible impaired driver, travelling southbound on Highway 99 near Alice Lake. The 2007 red Ford Ranger pick up was weaving in its lane, fluctuating in speed and nearly struck the median. The 18-year-old driver was en route to Vancouver. The vehicle was stopped and the driver returned to the detachment where two breath tests registered showing the young male to be over twice the legal limit. The male was detained until sober and released on promise to appear for June 10 to face an impaired driving charge. Squamish RCMP would like to thank the alert citizen who took the time out and helped get this intoxicated young male off the road.
