A traffic stop made by Pemberton RCMP led to the arrest of several people who police believe to be linked to fraudulent activities.

On Feb. 6, Pemberton RCMP stopped a 36-year-old man from Surrey for speeding.

Police say officers found the vehicle was uninsured and that the man was wanted on two outstanding warrants from Kamloops.

RCMP allege the man had a “substantial amount” of items associated with making false identification, fake credit cards and credit card skimmers.

The man is being held in custody.

Pemberton officers continued investigating and found other people they believe to be involved with the man.

Two other people were arrested that same day in the 4400-block of Sundial Place, Whistler.

A 31-year-old man from Abbotsford was arrested. Police say he was wanted on 19 outstanding charges from three different jurisdictions in the Lower Mainland.

He is being held in custody and will appear in North Vancouver court.

An 18-year-old woman from Abbotsford who had been reported missing was arrested.

She  was later released without charge and arrangements for her return home were made.

Police are still investigating into the suspects’ activities along the Sea to Sky Corridor.

New charges are expected.

Debit card and credit card fraud occurs when someone ‘skims’ or swipes the information from the magnetic strip on the back of your card to create a duplicate of your card.

With debit cards the thief also needs to capture your PIN.

Credit card fraud can happen in several ways, including skimming where a thief manufactures a counterfeit card and then uses that counterfeit card to purchase items in stores, Internet or by phone.
