A man accused of forcing his way into the Garibaldi Budget Inn to steal drugs and other items from two patrons is back in custody after violating the terms of his release.

Traith Jones was picked up by RCMP members at 1:05 a.m. on Sunday (July 29) and taken into custody for two counts of failure to comply with recognizance and one count of failure to apply with a probation order.

"Traith was brought back into custody to appear before court again [Monday, July 30]," said Cpl. Dave Ritchie. "He was found at another location with some property that wasn't his, but we're not sure what the source was of that property, if it was stolen or not."

Jones was originally released on July 18 by North Vancouver provincial court after being arrested on four charges related to a break-in a week earlier.

He was given bail on July 30 and appeared before court again yesterday (Aug. 2) to face charges related to the Garibaldi Inn incident.

Jones and 40-year-old Dana Gilbertson, both of Squamish, face charges of uttering threats, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, break and enter and possession of stolen property.

Meanwhile, Jones was picked up for breach of his terms of release.

During his court appearance on Thursday (Aug. 2), Jones was again released on recognizance to return to court Wednesday Aug. 15 and face various charges, not all of which are related to the Garibaldi Inn incident.

At 1 a.m. on July 13, five suspects broke into a room at the Garibaldi Inn, a Third Avenue discount motel, and allegedly used a machete and bear spray to steal drugs, cell phones, an Ipod and a 1991 red Chevy Blazer from a 27-year old woman and a 43-year old man.

The suspects also took the victims' bankcards, forcing them to give up their PINs, according to Ritchie.

The victims identified the suspects for police and listed drugs as among the stolen items - RCMP is not specifying the type of drugs.

The information led investigators to a residence in the 37000 block of Second Avenue where four of the five suspects were taken into custody.

Police are still searching for an 18-year old female and a 21-year old male and at the time if the incident, RCMP had good indications that the pair are still in Squamish.
