Two Squamish males face multiple charges in connection with last week's police discovery of a marijuana grow operation at a home on Government Road in North Yards.
On Friday (May 27), Squamish RCMP, including members of the Sea to Sky General Investigation Section, executed a search warrant at the home in the 40000 block of Government Road. In the search, officers arrested two males and seized 17 marijuana plants and "production equipment for a much larger operation," RCMP Sgt. Eric Rochette wrote in an email to The Chief.
As a result, the two men have been charged with unlawfully producing a controlled substance and several counts of failing to comply with a court-ordered recognizance. They are set to appear in court on July 13.
Man faces breach charge
A Squamish man faces a breach of conditions charge after he allegedly parked his truck outside a home he had earlier been ordered not to visit. The man, who had been ordered not to visit the home as part of a peace bond arising from an earlier court case, allegedly parked the truck outside the home and yelled at a female inside, Rochette said.
The incident occurred last Thursday (May 26). The complainant provided police with pictures of the man and his vehicle outside the home, police said. RCMP members arrested the man, after which he appeared before a judge, who imposed new conditions and a future court date, Rochette said.
Drunken man arrested
A man faces a charge of being intoxicated in public after he was found sitting in the middle of the parking lot in front of Garibaldi 5 Cinemas.
On Thursday (May 26), police received a complaint of a drunk man in front of the movie theatre. Police officers who approached the man noticed the smell of liquor and that the man could barely stand without help, Rochette said. The man was arrested, taken to the Squamish RCMP detachment and lodged in cells until he was sober.
Bonfire extinguished
On Saturday (May 28), local RCMP received a request from Squamish Fire Rescue for police to attend the scene of a large bonfire under the Mashiter Creek Bridge near The Boulevard in Garibaldi Highlands. Police arrived and spoke to those who were present, including one minor who was seen with liquor in her possession. She was ticketed for being in possession of liquor and given a ride home, Rochette said. The fire was extinguished and the other partiers were sent away, he said.
