Police are seeking the public's help in locating a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred on the weekend at a Squamish cold beer and wine store.
On Saturday (April 9) at 8:39 p.m., police received a 911 report of a robbery at the Best Western Mountain Retreat Hotel's cold beer and wine store. The suspect entered through the front door and pulled out a weapon from his waistband, RCMP Staff Sgt. Guy Pollock said in a statement.
The suspect them demanded money from the till. The man "later pointed the handgun in a threatening and dangerous manner at employees as he departed the store on foot," Pollock said.
The suspect is described as being approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall. At the time of the incident, he was wearing black hoodie or "kangaroo jacket" and mask. He fled the store in a westerly direction, Pollock said.
The same business was the scene of a similar incident late last year. On Nov. 30, an employee stocking shelves at the store was sprayed with "a substance that incapacitated her," and the suspect stole and undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled on foot. The description of the suspect in that incident wasn't the same as the one in the more recent crime, however. It's not known whether any arrests have been made in the earlier incident.
Squamish RCMP are asking that that anyone with information about either incident phone the detachment at (604) 892-6100 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
