B.C. Parks and the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) are hosting a two-day event next week to help locals learn more about staying safe in avalanche country.

The event, planned next Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 21 and 22) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Red Heather shelter in Garibaldi Provincial Park, will include demonstrations of avalanche transceivers in action, a chance to test your skills with avalanche beacons, a chance to see the latest avalanche safety innovations in action and an avalanche trivia quiz for the chance to win great prizes.

Those planning to attend are urged to bring tire chains for their vehicles as the road to the parking area can be icy.
