Axemen Division 3 team blows out Capilano on the road

Meanwhile, the Axes and Oars ladies dropped a close game to Richmond

The Axemen pose for a picture with the BC Division 2 trophy after their 30-15 win in the grand final against Surrey on Saturday.

It was another productive road trip for the Axemen's Division 3 unit last weekend, rolling to a 79-0 domination of Capilano. The Axes and Oars women's team wasn't so fortunate, but earned a bonus point in a 29-22 season-ending loss to Richmond.

The men and a healthy contingent of supporters enjoyed a sunny afternoon at Klahanie Park. A combative first 20 minutes finally gave way to some free-flowing rugby, with the Axemen taking command in undeniable fashion. Peter Moonen was the pick of the players on the day with an inspired performance against his former club, while Ian Skuse drove his team around the pitch as captain. Kane Baratta made a noteworthy debut.

Reports from the sideline indicate that another five minutes of playing time would have opened the door for the Axes and Oars to complete a valiant comeback effort, but Richmond was able to hang on for victory. After the game, club representatives acknowledged Grace Davies for impressing in her inaugural game.

The ladies have thus concluded their fall season, but will continue to train and work out. Back on Nov. 7, they earned the first win in program history: a 37-5 triumph over Chilliwack.

Both senior men’s teams are in action against the Scribes in Vancouver next weekend, aiming to sign off a great fall season on style.
